Richard was one of the few guests who actually was able to out talk you Carl

I let him LOL... I like Richard because he really does care about people's well-being.. unlike so many who simply see obesity and chronic disease as a moneymaking industry. He cries for people because he can relate to what it feels like to be trapped by your body.. While I don't cry.. mine manifests as anger towards those who would profit from our illness and dependency on drugs as opposed to speaking out against the poisoning of a entire civilization.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, Carl. I value your opinion tremendously. Your statement "the muscle on your body will suffer in exchange for fat accretion" was all I needed to hear.

The number on the scale has been viewed by our culture as the only number that matters for so long that it is hard to let go of that at times. Healthy body composition is so much more important.

Thanks again, Carl!

Great interview with Richard Simmons, Carl and Alisa!

I am.....!

I don't agree with everything that Richard said but it works for him. I have a lot of respect for him and was not going to challenge him or try and change his mind about anything. I think everyone in my audience knows how I feel about focusing exclusively on "weight" as opposed to the composition of lean/fat that make up that weight. And calories are a very small part of the equation unless you ware eating lots of grain based starchy carbs and not enough protein and fat. Its clear that Richard's approach is much like Weight Watchers in that you can "save" your calories and eat pizza or ice cream instead of good foods and the illusion is that your weight will stay the same.. and while that may be true.. the muscle on your body will be suffer in exchange for fat accretion which is NOT the goal.. but if all you care about is weight or BMI this works to that end.

Great interview with Richard Simmons, Carl and Alisa!

I am wondering what you thought when Richard commented that, to stay at his current weight, he has to eat around 1,600 calories?

Many people (myself included), struggle with what is right. Calories in vs. calories out? Or calories don't matter?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Happy Thanksgiving to you both!
