Guest: Dr. Annette Langer-Gould - Dr. Natalie Rasgon - Dr. Luigi Nibali
Multiple Sclerosis is on the rise in women. Dr. Langer-Gould's group looked at the linkage between hormonal contraceptives and the prevalence of Multiple Sclerosis. PLUS Dr. Rasgon's group looked at brain function, metabolism and cognition in a group of postmenopausal women who are genetically predisposed to dementia. They compared those who are currently on HRT and those who were on and stopped. They also corrected for those using beta-estradiol, beta-estradiol and progesterone combined and compared to those using Conjugated Equine Estrogen as well as synthetic estrogen and progestins. The results was astounding and explains why the Women's Health Initiative study was a complete failure and ultimately hurt a lot of women. PLUS Many of us are aware of the importance of the microbiome in our body. But what if you can't influence it through the introduction of beneficial microbes? What if your genetics predispose you to specific phyla of microbes and not others. And THIS is the real "genetic predisposition" to developing diseases like Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Cancer and more. Dr. Nibali's group may have discovered that its your genes that allow your body to adopt some microbes while not others.
