Try using an audio meditation aid. You can buy CDs or MP3s that are just music or in some cases just a simple meditation walk-through. This gives you something to concentrate on to keep thoughts clear from your mind.

Meditation can actually be very hard for some people like myself. Some people can't really 'think of nothing' in that way, if they have a very active alive mind and sensitive.

In fact trying to meditate can just make you automatically dwell on painful issues in your life and make things worse.

There probably is some middle ground for people like me here, certainly breathing alone and deliberately and properly can have benefits, but out of out 'meditation' is probably not a beneficial strategy for everybody.
